Bangkok— The International College, in collaboration with the IC International Startup Academy (IC I-SA) at Panyapiwat Institute of Management International College (PIM), is committed to developing the next generation of “Future Inno-preneurs”, innovative entrepreneurs capable of scaling up green innovations and sustainable business models. Today, the institution received praise from the international NGO Lever for setting the goal of sourcing 100% cage-free eggs across all its operations by 2028. As a truly international academic community, with students representing 23 countries, the college exemplifies its dedication to advancing food safety, sustainability, and ethical sourcing practices within Thailand’s education sector.
Established in 2013 under Panyapiwat Institute of Management (PIM), Thailand’s first corporate university under the Charoen Pokphand Group (C.P. Group), the International College fosters the development of green entrepreneurs who drive modern, sustainable businesses in the global marketplace. Facilitated by the IC International Startup Academy (IC I-SA), students have opportunities to engage with industry experts, develop practical business models, and showcase their ventures through the center’s networking. Apart from that, the center plays a pivotal role in enhancing entrepreneurial competencies and encouraging student participation in international business competitions. Through its holistic approach, International College, PIM upholds its core philosophy of balancing economic, environmental, and social factors to promote sustainable development at both national and global levels.
As Thailand’s premier corporate university, we recognize our responsibility to implement sustainable practices that align with global standards,” said Assistant Professor Dr. Veerisa Chotiyaputta, the Dean of International College at Panyapiwat Institute of Management. “Our support for the transition to 100% cage-free eggs by 2028 reflects our broader institutional values of responsible leadership and ethical business practices that we aim to instill in our graduates.”
“We applaud International College, Panyapiwat Institute of Management for taking this step toward more humane food sourcing practices in Thailand’s higher education sector,” said Purita Sayavaranont, Sustainability Program Manager at Lever Foundation, which worked with the university on establishing its new policy goal. “As an institution that trains future business leaders, International College, PIM’s support to cage-free sourcing sends a powerful message about the importance of ethical supply chain management to thousands of students who will shape Thailand’s corporate landscape.”
Cage-free egg production, in which hens are given the freedom to move in open indoor environments, improves animal welfare and significantly lowers food safety risks compared to caged egg production. Exhaustive research by the European Food Safety Authority found that cage-free egg farms are up to 25 times less likely to be contaminated with key strains of salmonella than caged egg farms. The production of caged eggs has been banned across Europe, as well as in the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, Bhutan and parts of India, Australia, and the United States. An increasing number of consumers have also been leaving eggs off their plates as the best way to help laying hens.
